Looking for a way to up-cycle those odd cast-offs and keep them out of the landfill? Turn them into cool, unique planters. Or maybe you are just looking to add a little funk personality to your garden. Here are a few of my favorite ideas to use non-conformist items in your garden, and be kind to the earth.
Not sure what to plant in your vintage upcycled container? Try succulents. They do quite well and look great against a variety of different containers; including rusty metals and ceramics.
Remember when planting in any container that you will need proper drainage. If your unique planters don’t already have drainage, you can usually add proper drainage with a drill. Just make sure you use the right drill bit. And with more limited soil space in that container, it is important to add good soil or compost with fertilizer.
Succulents like well-draining soil. They will suffocate if their roots sit in waterlogged soil. Other plants like annuals need more water, so a richer potting mix which retains water works well since pots dry out much faster than ground soil.
